End of Support of Windows® XP – useful considerations about FasTrak and CTI products

Sales Information : July 30, 2014

Dear Client,

In spring 2014, the end of support of the Windows® XP operating system has become effective.

As a consequence and if not already proceeded, IT departments shall, sooner or later, face the decision of moving internal systems to newer operating systems.

We have taken this occasion to review what impact the XP support termination may have for your FasTrak and CTI 2500 Series® products.

Customers still using obsolete programming software packages (TISOFT2™, Modsoft™ etc.) or outdated versions of FasTrak software risk compatibility issues when computer equipment is moved to current Windows® 7 or 8 without updating the programming software. Using the latest versions of FasTrak’s PLC WorkShop prevents customers from being affected by this very annoying problem since we ensure

• Support of Windows® 7 and 8

• Improved install on 64-bit OS for Suite/SuperSuite 505WorkShop (V4.70) and Modicon™ (V5.76)

More generally, accessing improved features in CTI 2500 Series® processors may require minimum versions of PLC WorkShop and therefore may not be possible with the software or software version you are currently using. Below a few examples for 505WorkShop:

• V4.80      Coming soon! Increase of control relays supported by 2500-C400 from 32768 to 56320

• V4.70      Improved speed for TCP/IP communications

• V4.60      Support of 4 new instructions exclusively available for CTI CPUs

• V4.32      FasTrak Profibus Configurator editor replacing COM Profibus

Please be reminded that a valid maintenance agreement does not only give access to latest software versions. It also includes unlimited technical support and provides access to maintenance service in case of hardware key problems.

If you are using Siemens® APT® programming software developed under DOS, it will be of interest for  you to learn that FasTrak’s Windows® based “APT Replacement Software (APTRP)” approaches end of development. This direct replacement software fully supports latest Windows® operating systems (32-bit and 64-bit) and imports any existing APT® program. Contact us if you would like to learn more about it or if you wish to familiarize with this new software by joining the official testing program.

A migration to latest Windows® OS may also affect your 2500-OPC server from Kepware:

• Built 5.11.250 (March 2013) integrated the official support of Windows® 8 and Server 2012

NAPA INTERNATIONAL FRANCE  as well as all international distribution partners remain at your disposal for checking the support and maintenance status of your current FasTrak license(s) or programming tool and for providing suggestions about how to access software that his engineered for Windows® 7, 8 and beyond.
