CTI 2500 Series® Compact I/O to Replace Aging Siemens ET200B Block I/O for US-based Global Manufacturer

Summary : When a global customer with more than $1B in sales wanted to replace its aging Siemens ET200B I/O blocks, they turned to CTI’s 2500 Series® Compact I/O to solve their process control problem.

A US-based division of a global manufacturer was using Siemens ET200B Distributed I/O Stations connected via Profibus-DP to Siemens/TI 545 or CTI 2500 Series C200 PLCs to control one of its product lines. As the components aged, the engineering team began looking for replacement options for the Siemens ET200B distributed I/O units.

The engineering team explored several options:

• Replacing the ET200B with ET200M
• Replacing the PLCs with S7-300 or Allen Bradley PLCs and buying new I/O
• Replacing the ET200B with CTI’s 2500 Series Compact I/O

The engineering team chose CTI’s Compact I/O system for its small size, strong capabilities, and compatibility with the existing TI 545 CPUs.

Replacing Siemens ET200B block I/O with CTI’s 2500 Series Compact I/O solved the customer’s reliability problem quickly, cost-effectively and with little impact on operations.

Switching to the CTI 2500 Series Compact I/O allowed the customer to:

• Keep using its existing TI/Siemens 545 and CTI 2500-C200 PLCs
• Preserve intellectual property by reusing existing application programs
• Save money since the solution did not require expensive re-wiring, re-programming, re-engineering, re-training or re-validation
• Reduce risk by avoiding need for re-certification/re-commissioning
• Avoid extensive downtime
